AeU provides e learning expertise and technology to East Indonesia though UMI
Kuala Lumpur, 15 January 2011 ‐ Asia e University (AeU) and Universitas Muslim Indonesia Makassar (UMI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today at a ceremony held at Asia e University, Jalan Sultan Sulaiman, Kuala Lumpur, in conjunction with its Open Day.
Signing the MoU for AeU was its Deputy President, Prof. Dr. Hairudin Harun while Prof. Dr. Hj. Masrurah Mokhtar MA, Rector of UMI, signed the MoU on behalf of the East Indonesian university. Present to witness the ceremony were Dr. Abdillah Suffian Abdul Rahim, Vice‐ President (Marketing & Communications), AeU and Prof. Dr. H. Muh. Nasir Hamzah SE, MSi, representative of the Head of Education and Communications Foundation, UMI. Also present at the MoU signing were Prof. Dr. Ir. Abd Maqksud, DEA, Deputy President of UMI and management and staff members of AeU.
The collaborative activities identified for further development in this alliance incorporates exchanging of graduate students, collaborative research projects, sharing of academic information and promotion of academic cooperation between the two universities.
UMI is a Dakwah and Education institution established in 1954, making it the oldest institution of higher learning and the largest private university in East Indonesia. It has 12 faculties with 40 study programmes from Diploma level to Masters and Doctorate levels. UMI currently has 15,000 registered students with a strength of 750 qualified academic staff supported by 348 administration and support staff members. UMI recognises AeU as a platform for it to expand and provide better quality and more affordable e‐learning facilities and support to Indonesia, particularly in East Indonesia.
AeU is the prime mover of e‐education among the 31 Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) countries. Established in 2007 as an Asian international university that offers flexible education for Asia by Asians, AeU envisions to be a leader and a premier educational hub in the promotion of affordable and quality e‐learning in Asia. Its mission is to work in collaboration with universities, institutions and corporations, drawing upon their collective expertise, prestige and resources to provide quality Higher Education and Lifelong Learning. In line with this AeU looks forward to exploring further areas of cooperation with UMI to provide assistance in improving education in Indonesia, particularly in the area of e learning.
